FAQ

What is the Cool Comfort Wrap™?

The Cool Comfort Wrap™ is the first Cold Therapy/Compression device available to patients for relief of pain, swelling and muscle soreness related to dental or plastic surgery procedures. It delivers cool compression to the face and jaw eliminating leaky ice packs and interrupted sleep after any dental or plastic surgery procedure of the face and jaws. The Cool Comfort Wrap™ comes with a disposable sleeve to cover the cooling bladder so the user can change it for the next surgical procedure and the Cool Comfort Wrap™ will be ready to relieve swelling and pain for a family member or a friend.

What is the Cool Comfort Wrap™ System?

For Dental Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons and ENT Surgeons the Cool Comfort Wrap™ System is a package of multiple Cool Comfort™ Units and an inventory of disposable sleeves to service a seven day schedule of surgical cases. The system includes instruction packets for the patient on the use and care of the unit they have either leased or borrowed from the practice. It also includes Steriplex disinfectant/sterilant to be used to clean the units between use and storage instructions and inventory instructions for the practice.

How Does Cold Therapy Work?

The Cool Comfort Wrap™ is effective for a variety of reasons. First, it decreases fluid build up (swelling). Second, it slows the release of chemicals that cause pain and inflammation. Third, cold decreases pain by reducing the ability of the nerve endings to conduct impulses. And lastly, it aids in pain relief by limiting the muscle's ability to maintain contraction, thus reducing muscles spasm. Because of these benefits, cold therapy is generally prescribed throughout the duration of your rehabilitation.

How Does the Cool Comfort™ Wrap Work?

The Cool Comfort Wrap™ System provides cold therapy through temperature regulation. By utilizing ice and water that is circulated from an insulated fluid reservoir to a pad that is applied to your postoperative site, the system provides cold therapy for an extended period of time between ice changes. The sleeve covering the pad protects the skin so the Cool Comfort Wrap™ can safely be applied for longer periods of time than direct ice packs. And there is no leakage from the pad making patients more comfortable and allowing more un-interrupted sleep time for the patient (and the parents).

Do I have to have a prescription or note from a doctor to purchase the Cool Comfort Wrap™?

No, you do not need a prescription to purchase a unit. Units are available for purchase by anyone undergoing oral surgery or a long dental procedure where swelling may be anticipated. Other uses for the Cool Comfort Wrap™ include surgeries of the face and jaws performed by ENT Surgeons and Plastic Surgeons. Families with multiple children find the Cool Comfort Wrap™ the perfect first aid choice for their young athletes prone to sports injuries. It is a reusable and versatile so parents with multiple teenage children find it an inexpensive cooling product to have around the house.

The removal of wisdom teeth is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in this country. Literally thousands of patients undergo the extraction of wisdom teeth every week. While most surgeries are uneventful, some patients experience severe pain, swelling and many days of painful chewing function. The surgery almost always requires narcotics for pain management and prescription pain medicine abuse is on the rise with teenagers and adults undergoing oral surgery. Reducing the pain and swelling following the removal of wisdom teeth is  key to limiting narcotic use and abuse after surgery and facilitating the return to a normal diet as soon as possible.

The Cool Comfort Wrap™ reduces pain, swelling and the need for narcotic medications post-operatively. It reduces muscle pain by reducing post-operative swelling and helps to return the patient to normal chewing function and a normal diet. Patients and parents alike appreciate the Cool Comfort Wrap™ and report that it greatly decreases pain and swelling following all types of oral surgery.

The Cool Comfort Wrap™ System

  • The motor for the Cool Comfort Wrap™ System has an industry-wide track record for reliability.
  • All parts of the Cool Comfort Wrap™ System can be individually replaced, making it more economical to replace a worn out part. All parts, including the pad, can be neatly stored inside the unit without anything protruding, saving space in the stockroom.
  • At 11 quarts, the Cool Comfort Wrap™ System has the largest capacity cooler of any single-patient use, motorized cold therapy unit on the market and can provide 8-11 hours of continuous-flow cold therapy with each ice change.

Why Do I Need Cold Therapy?

Two of the most unpleasant side effects of oral and maxillofacial surgery are pain and swelling. These conditions affect the healing process and can lead to longer rehabilitation times. Cold therapy is widely recognized as one of the most effective treatment methods to combat these issues. By using cold therapy you are taking an important step in speeding up the recovery process, getting you back to the pain-free life you deserve.

Why is Motorized Cold Therapy Better Than Ice or Gel Packs?

Ice and gel packs administer intense cold per a small application area for a short period of time, requiring frequent trips to the freezer. Cold therapy systems, such as The Cool Comfort Wrap™ System, deliver a motorized flow of cold therapy through circulation pads that are specifically designed for different body parts and applications. And, they deliver cold within a comfortable temperature range that allows for longer-term application according to your physician's prescribed treatment protocol. The system will typically maintain its cold for 8-11 hours per ice change. Compression is another widely recognized method for relieving uncomfortable swelling associated with surgery. The Cool Comfort Wrap™ System helps to alleviate this condition by comfortably compressing the injury site, thus aiding the healing process.

  • Patient instructions on the use of the Cool Comfort Wrap™
  • Instructions on cleaning and maintenance
  • Administrative forms and inventory control forms

How the Cool Comfort Wrap™ works:

In order to showcase the Cool Comfort Wrap™ and educate the patient and their caregiver on its use, we recommend applying it right after surgery. The patient is placed in the Cool Comfort Wrap™ in the recovery room and instructions are given on how to apply it and how to use it at home. The unit number is recorded on the inventory control form and when returned at the first post-operative visit, logged back in and set aside for cleaning and reuse.

How many units will my office need?

Depending on the number of third molar surgeries you do in a normal week will determine how many units you will need to purchase. We recommend one unit for each recovery room in your office and at least 4 units to stock for initial use.

The initial investment is small and your satisfaction with the Cool Comfort Wrap™ System is guaranteed. See Terms and Conditions. The Cool Comfort Wrap™ sleeve is disposable for patient safety.

Steriplex™ disinfectant solution is available to ensure quick and easy maintenance of your Cool Comfort Wrap units.
